Sketch 101: Writing Basics

In this course students will learn the basics of writing comedy sketches. We will discuss: generating comedic ideas, formulating with a premise, the game of the sketch, and sketch revision. Students will write smart two person scenes grounded in reality, and have fun doing it under the TIM Comedy Philosophy!

Cost: $120

Week 1 - 9/6/25 - 3:00PM-5:00PM

Week 2 - 9/13/25 - 3:00PM-5:00PM

Week 3 - 9/20/25 - 3:00PM-5:00PM

Week 4 - 9/2725 - 3:00PM-5:00PM

Availability: Class is limited to 12 students.

No comedy or theater experience necessary. CLASS RUNS for 2 HOURS each week with optional office hours after class as available.

Age Requirement: Students are encouraged to be over 17 years of age. Please contact info@tucsonimprov.com for exceptions.

Amanda started doing improv with TIM in May 2015 after realizing that she needed a little intangible and impermanent art in her life! The inviting community, high average number of belly laughs per minute, and throwaway nature of improv is what made Amanda know that she wanted to do as much Improv as possible. In addition to studying Improv at TIM, she has also studied Sketch at both TIM and Second City online. She is currently a member of Fine Print, a house Harold team, and most importantly to her heart, the indie teams Legal Torts, We Were Dead the Whole Time, and Oops All Tom Sellecks!

Philosophically speaking, Amanda believes that Improv scenes should be rooted in honest reactions, active listening, and a strong point of view. Her weekdays are spent teaching 6-8th grade Language Arts and directing middle school plays (the most fun part of her job!). Aside from Improv, her hobbies include writing, painting, and talking to and about her dog, Harris.
