Stand Up 201: Joke Writing

This class will build upon the three minute set developed in the Stand Up 101 course, and expand upon it with a new five minute set length. Students will learn how to build connections between different sets to develop more advanced stand up material. Students will learn the six major joke writing concepts, deconstruct comedic attributes that make them work, and write jokes within those formats each week of the class.

Mo Urban has been described as silly, insightful and energetic on stage. Mo uses a lot of introspection in her stand-up and is relatable with what she discovers. Mo often laughs at herself and encourages others to do the same. Mo has been the feature performer at Laffs, produced shows all over Tucson and other parts of Arizona. She Co-produces Lady HaHa, an open mic for women and LGBTQ+ communities along with Pricsilla Fernandez and Amber Frame. Mo also produces and hosts a monthly show at BlackRock Brewery and has been involved with production for The Big Pine Comedy Festival, Bird City Comedy Festival, and the Tucson Comedy Arts Festival. Mo won Best Comedian in the 2022 Tucson Weekly balloting.
