Instructor: Will Martin
Saturday, November 9th 10am-12:30pm
Hosting is creating a space where comedy can thrive: one of the most important parts of a show and one of the parts practiced least. We’ll cover every part of the hosting package from entrance to exit, and every flavor of hosting from sketch showcases to shortform improv. We’ll discuss and practice the difference between hosting for an intimate weeknight crowd and a packed theater on Saturday night. We’ll work on solo hosting and hosting with a group, practicing take and take of focus. We’ll practice physicality, energies, cutting the ums, all the nuts and bolts we forget about until it’s time to introduce the next team.
Will Martin is an LA-based, Boston-bred comedian who charms audiences with childless fun dad energy. The Boston Globe calls Total Loss, his show about death, “a must-see, hilarious and loving one man show.” In 2019 he toured Total Loss across the country, with performances at Boston’s Rockwell Theater, Chicago’s iO Theater, and Chilikoot Charlie’s in Alaska. Will was a resident cast member at ImprovBoston, performing with the National Touring Company and teaching as an executive coach. He's performed standup at NYC’s Butterboy and Boston institutions like The Comedy Studio, The Gas, and Nick’s Comedy Stop. Will created the Will Martin Comedy Fest and almost headlined. He records his podcast Passenger Side from the minivan he occasionally lives in.
